Healthy Kids Day!: A Success Story
On Saturday May 11th (the most beautiful Saturday we could ask for!), with the help of our partners at 10TV Commit to Be Fit, Columbus Metro Parks and Columbus Public Health, we welcomed over 10,000 visitors to the Scioto Audubon Metro Park for our first annual association wide Healthy Kids Day celebration. Months of hard work and preparation went into this event- to see the community come out and enjoy every game, activity and vendor made for the best Saturday ever.
Previously, Healthy Kids Day, a national YMCA event across the county, was held separately at each individual branch. In early 2019, an idea popped into our head: why don't we come together as an association and create one large event that can bring the entire central Ohio community together. Each branch brought their own unique talent with different activities for event goers to enjoy. Our staff, along with sponsors, vendors and volunteers, brought an experience to the community that is now being touted as "the best kids event central Ohio has seen in years".
From Interim Present and CEO, Kim Jordan, " What started with an idea of one large event, and was built upon was simply amazing. The event brought our entire association together in one location and created a wonderful experience for so many kids and families. It was truly a testament to who we are and what we do each day.
It was amazingly unifying for our teams and so great to see our staff working together towards the common goal. Also, many of our partners were in attendance as vendors or were providing community services and information, as well. What a great collaboration!"
We could not have pulled this off without the brilliant staff at Scioto Audubon Metro Park who helped answer every question we had with patience and a great attitude, who directed event traffic and were so incredibly kind to every staff and community member. We would not have been able to set up, tear down or keep the park squeaky clean without the volunteers Refuge Ministries Columbus, US Navy Seals and various other community members.
